Introduction
We discovered the Bearded Collie in 1999, as our first blue Beardie Penn-Glas came into our family. It was such a happiness for us and particularly for the children !
His loss arrived much too early but the decision came naturally to us : We had to do what we didn't realise with him ; it was the time to have several Beardies, go to shows and create a small kennel in the respect and love of this wonderful and social pastoral dog with a happy and sensible temperament.
The kennel of Letavia, celtic name of Brittany, is born with the vocation to live with these amazing dogs, coming from Scotland in the Highlands or the Borders and we have the will to transmit our passion.
Our family
We are a family with 2 adults, Philippe and Patricia. We have 2 sons Fidweten 17, Karanteg 14 and a young daughter, Aouregan 8 years old.
We live in the country in a nice village. Our typical britton cottage is in a park of 1ha. Our dogs live with us at home and have much place outside for fun and sport.
So, we have at home 5 Beardies and 2 european cats.
We love nature and sport and like walking, fishing, swimming, horse riding, dancing...
At the beginning
In 1999, we started a new experience in organic agricultary and we were looking for a pastoral dog in order to help us at work. It seemed very important to us to have a good family dog too !
Everywhere, we heard about a fantastic breed for herding, the Border Collie.
Our decision was not made... Personally, I have always loved shaggy dogs and have a good childhood memory of a Briard...
Then, chance came naughtily... Philipe and I were by the vet ; we were looking at a dog breed poster in the waiting room and we were very surprised to see under the pic of a Border Collie, the name of bearded Collie. It was of course an error !
A few days later, I was reading newspaper ads. There were many supplies for Border Collies and only one for Bearded Collies. I was really attracted and sure to meet dogs similar to the Border Collies.
So, what a surprise as we went to the breeder to be welcomed by a bitch with long brown hair, enthusiast and lovely ! I fell in love at first sight ! And she had very gorgeous pups in 4 colours. It was impossible to resist ! Though we were a little ashamed about this misunderstanding, we have always laughed a lot about this first encounter, that had inevitably to arrive.
We shared happy times with Penn-Glas, unfortunately too short ! Our First blue Beardie was a very good natured, gentle and sweet ! Unforgettable moments with and for the children !
As he left us, the house seemed to be so empty, that we couldn't live without a Beardie.
And a new adventure began for us with our current Bearded Collies, Colman, Goldy, Colleen, Harry and Holly, all so nice with us and together. We enjoy every day with them...
Now, when I remember my first encounter with the Beardie, I see supple energy in a dancing coat. And I know too that there is so much tenderness in the eyes of these dogs, that my feeling is more than rational and just called LOVE !
It's the way our passion for Beardies was born !
